There’s No Place Like My Hometown of Westby, Wisconsin for the Holidays

Westby, Wisconsin, is a tiny town hidden away in rural Vernon County with one very special distinction: it just so happens to be my favorite little town in the entire state and usually tends to fly under the radar. That being said, in the winter, it takes on an especially exotic, North Pole-type vibe, and as a result, it makes for my downright favorite little winter town in Wisconsin. Come explore my beautiful hometown of Westby during the winter - you won't regret it (unless you fail to pack for very cold weather.)

As of the 2020 census, the population of this little slice of paradise is 2,332. It's one of those places where everyone knows everyone else, and the holiday spirit just comes naturally.

This is one of those places where you'll have to make sure you know what to do ahead of time; it's a tiny town, but there's no shortage of things to do, see, and experience. One of my all-time favorite places in Wisconsin is Branches Winery, where you'll find all sorts of fun stuff going on. Some of the best, most notable winter events at the winery include the Holiday Sip & Shop, Music & Christmas Cheer, and many more.

Another must-see in this little town is the Westby Cooperative Creamery, which produces some of the downright best cheeses in the entire world. What better place to grab some delectable for that holiday charcuterie board? Wisconsin is THE place, and Westby is where it's at.

The Snowflake Ski Club is another wonderful place one must make time to visit during winter in Wisconsin. Whether your wintertime delights come from stunning cold-weather hikes, jaw-dropping scenery, beautiful small towns, or anything else, I'm certain that Westby, Wisconsin, is a special breed of wonderful.

Nature lovers will find that nearby state parks make for amazing winter adventures, too. My favorite state park, not terribly far from Westby, is Wildcat Mountain State Park. In the cold weather of winter, this place turns into a veritable wonderland. It's photogenic and fantasy-like, and lovers of cold weather will feel at home in this gorgeous northern Midwest state.
