I Asked Our AI-Travel Planner For a Weekend Adventure in Charleston – Here’s What It Created
Only In Your State's Dashboard created an incredible itinerary, including amazing attractions and restaurants, for a weekend adventure in Charleston, West Virginia.
Travel planning is a little like cooking for me—I only enjoy it when I have plenty of time. If I feel rushed, it's annoying and stressful. The problem is that spending a leisurely morning or afternoon browsing magazines or the web for travel ideas is not my reality. I have three young kids, a puppy, and engaging work I love. But I adore travel (maybe more than any other activity) and am unwilling to give it up. Thankfully, Only In Your State has developed an AI-powered travel planner to lighten the load. I used Only In Your State's Dashboard to plan a weekend adventure in Charleston, West Virginia, and I am beyond impressed with the itinerary it created.
I started creating a weekend in Charleston by inputting the destination and other details, like the month of travel and attendees. I asked for an itinerary for May for my partner and me. The first recommendation caught my eye: J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works. This family-owned business harvests salt from an ancient ocean hundreds of feet below the Appalachian Mountains. Visitors can tour, try the salt, and even purchase some to take home. I'd love to bring home some of their Artisan Sea Salt or Flavored Sea Salt. Wouldn't either option make a fantastic souvenir or gift?
Only In Your State's Dashboard also suggested visiting the Criel Mound, a 2,500-year-old Adena burial site in downtown South Charleston, about 10 minutes from Charleston. The ancient cemetery was constructed by hand using more than a million basketfuls of earth. Long ago, the mound held the remains of more than 12 people; the site was excavated in the 1800s. My spouse and I would enjoy visiting the area and reading the signs dedicated to its fascinating history.
The AI-travel planner also included the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences in our weekend adventure itinerary. With a theater, a discovery center, a concert hall, a planetarium, and gardens, visitors can do so much in one building. I'd especially love to view a film at the planetarium or enjoy live music in the performance hall.
I love trying new restaurants when I travel, so I couldn't wait to see what Only In Your State's Dashboard suggested. Bricks & Barrels, a favorite restaurant in West Virginia, offers delicious dishes like filet mignon, red snapper, and scallops, along with several craft beers on tap. It has unique dining areas tucked into rounded alcoves, creating the illusion of a table inside a whiskey barrel. Doesn't this sound like the perfect place for a romantic dinner during a weekend getaway?
The AI-travel planner also suggested dining at 1010 Bridge Restaurant and Catering, a world-famous restaurant in a small town. Its chef, Paul Smith, is the state's first James Beard Award winner. The restaurant's starters include Fried Green Tomatoes, Shrimp Puffs, and Whipped Feta. Entrees include Dijon-Dill Crusted Chilean Salmon, Braised Beef Bolognese, and Chicken and Waffles. They all sound fantastic; I don't know if I could pick just one!
I'm thrilled with the AI-travel planner's weekend adventure in Charleston, West Virginia. The recommended attractions and restaurants sound like the perfect components of a memorable weekend away.
