Fall tends to conjure up two types of Washingtonians: those who love to celebrate the season with apple picking, pumpkin spice, farm days, and fall foliage, and those who simply want to be scared senseless until November 1. And while it’s entirely possible to be both, this weekend getaway in Washington is designed with the former in mind. If you love sweaters, soups, squash, farm life, and u-pick apples, you’ll love this autumn weekend adventure.
Pack your bags and head for Lynden, where Bellewood Farms awaits with some of the best fall foliage in Washington - and apples too, of course.
Bellewood Farms & Distillery is a working family-operated farm that has been part of the Lynden community since 1995.
The family eventually opened the farm to the public for visits, then launched their distilling business in 2012.
The beautiful apple orchard produces over a dozen varieties of apples, including some of the best Honeycrisp you'll ever taste...
... and in September and October, you can pick them yourself.
Pick your own or grab a variety of already-picked apples from the store.
While the farm hosts year-round events that are always a blast, autumn's Harvest Festival is particularly enjoyable.
In addition to apple picking, guests can pick out their pumpkins from a field, enjoy a free apple bin train ride, and even explore a free corn maze.
While you're here, check out the farm's on-site distillery.
This is actually Washington’s first true "farm-to-glass" distillery, and the award-winning brandy, vodka, and gin can be sampled in the tasting room Wednesday - Sunday.
And of course, it wouldn't be a fall farm visit without treats like apple cider donuts, kettle corn, and fresh apple cider.
Treat yourself.
Once you've thoroughly enjoyed Bellewood Farms, make your way to this spacious red barn loft, available to rent through Vrbo.
The loft is located on the outskirts of Bellingham, about a 10-15 minute drive from Bellewood Farms.
This cozy space is full of antique furniture, country decor, and all the comforts of home.
The full kitchen will come in handy since your stay comes with complimentary farm-fresh eggs, and the clawfoot tub in the bathroom is perfect for a soothing soak after a long day.
This place has two bedrooms with queen beds and can accommodate four guests comfortably.
Bring a few friends, bring your family, or simply enjoy some peace and quiet with someone special.
Whatcom County's fall foliage is always beautiful, so make sure and enjoy all the autumn hues from your back porch.
The nearby Lake Padden or Whatcom Falls Park will also give you that fall foliage fix.
