These 7 Beautiful Washington Day Trips Will Help You Welcome Fall

Explore top autumn destinations in Washington for scenic views, fall activities, and local events.

Fall is in the air (and on the trees) here in Washington. And just like summers, weekends full up fast. If you've only got one free day, spend it exploring one of our top autumn destinations.

1. Green Bluff

Green Bluff is a small farming community located near Spokane, and it's a perfect fall destination. Pick your own apples, visit a pumpkin patch, and enjoy a meal at The 238 Brewing Co.

2. Winthrop

Admittedly, Winthrop isn't an easy day trip for most Washingtonians. But if you're willing to leave early and get home late, you'll be treated to some absolutely incredible fall foliage in the Methow Valley, not to mention the Western fun in Winthrop.

3. Carleton Farms, Lake Stevens

Nothing beats a fall day on a farm, and this one happens to be outstanding. Pumpkinland opens on September 30th, and they also have hay rides, corn mazes, and a fresh market.

4. Whidbey Island

If you live in Western Washington, Whidbey Island is just a short ferry ride away. And it's perfectly peaceful and picturesque — plus, the mild weather makes it a great autumn destination.

5. Spokane

Eastern Washingtonians, when was the last time you drove into Spokane for the day? Not only do they have some delicious new eateries and creative shops, but Manito Park is exceptionally stunning this time of year.

6. Mt. Rainier National Park

Even if you live nearby, seeing all Mt. Rainier has to offer would be impossible in a single day. But a day is enough to see sights like this, and we believe this photo by Mike Peters speaks for itself.

7. Leavenworth

It's Leavenworth, what more can we say? This year's Autumn Leaf Festival is September 28-30, with Oktoberfest kicking off right after. But even if you just go for an afternoon, you'll have an amazing time.

Washington is a fantastic place to explore this time of year. Have you been to Walla Walla lately?
