Today's feature spot is a tiny rural community known as Draper, Virginia. Located in Pulaski County, this town has a population of just over 300. It is tucked away in southwestern Virginia amidst the mountains and the New River Valley, and boy oh boy does it have a lot of appeal!
A former rail town, Draper still retains much of its historic charm.
For a glimpse of history and breathtaking natural beauty, be sure to visit the nearby New River Trail State Park. This 57-mile rail trail runs between Galax and Pulaski, and makes for a great biking or walking trail.
Once you've worked up an appetite, you'll want to head to Draper Mercantile.
It is the very heart of this small community in Virginia.
"The Merc," as it's known locally, is built within the original post office.
Exploring the building, you'll find that this history has been thoughtfully preserved.
On the menu, you'll find an incredible assortment of made-from-scratch items.
This includes delicious sandwiches, mouthwatering burgers, and seasonal fare that is worlds beyond any typical road-stop food you might have imagined.
And don't forget your coffee!
Whether you prefer a specialty drink or a cup of black coffee, you'll feel re-inspired to continue your travels.
Of course, you couldn't be blamed for wanting to spend more time in this charming town.
