The Town of Barre is located within the Green Mountains of Central Vermont.
This community was officially chartered in 1781 and is one of the largest towns in Vermont with just under 8,000 residents.
Barre is home to four small unincorporated villages.
These include East Barre, Websterville, Graniteville, and South Barre. Each village has a post office, stores, a playground, and churches. Downtown Barre has experienced a revival that we are very excited about!
While people know Barre has panoramic mountain views and beautiful natural scenery, it is best known for its granite quarries.
The most famous being the Rock of Ages Quarry, which is the world's largest deep hole quarry. Interesting fact: It was used as a backdrop in both Batman & Robin and Star Trek.
Each year, visitors from all over the world tour the Hope cemetery to see some of the finest examples of memorial design and granite craftsmanship ever produced. If you're looking for things to do in Barre, Vermont, a visit to this cemetery is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Naturally, the granite comes from - you guessed it - the nearby Rock of Ages Quarry.
The memorials here are nothing short of fabulous and personalized works of art.

Try out the whispering statue, others known as Youth Triumphant, which is a natural phenomenon that must be seen - or heard - to be believed.
If one person sits at the edge of the large, round circular bench and whispers, the person at the opposite side can hear the voice as loudly as if the person was sitting right next to you. I'll admit I was more than a bit skeptical of this, but it did not disappoint.
The town of Barre, Vermont is also home to the world's largest zipper.
Located right on Main Street, just a few blocks away from the Whispering Statue, it's worth a look because you don't see something like this every day.
