Admission-Free, The Preston Trail Farms Petting Zoo In Texas Is The Perfect Day Trip Destination

If you love hanging out with farm animals, there's a petting zoo in Texas that deserves a top spot on your bucket list. You can get up-close and personal with all sorts of adorable critters at Preston Trail Farms - and the best part? For most of the year, it's totally free!

Located just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Gunter, Preston Trail Farms offers year-round fun for the whole family.

With a petting zoo, general store, and restaurant, it's the perfect day trip destination.

Visitors can get up-close and personal with over 50 farm animals, including goats, cows, and even longhorn cattle!

They're used to being around people and oh-so friendly, not posing a threat to even the tiniest of hands that reach into their enclosures.

The best part about Preston Trail Farms?

Aside from the annual fall festival, admission is totally free!

You can pet all the adorable critters your heart desires without paying a single dime.

Feeding the animals, however, does cost money.

If you have a child between the ages of 4 and 11 who's interested in learning about farm life, Farm Camp is a weeklong experience packed with fun, educational activities.

There are two sessions - one in June and the other in July - and the camp takes place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day. It costs $200 per child for a five-day session ($235 with lunch).

Every fall, the farm transforms into a massive pumpkin patch with gourds of every size, shape, and color imaginable.

In addition to picking the perfect pumpkin, guests also enjoy hayrides, a six-foot hay maze, and - of course - the petting zoo.

From 1/3-pound Angus beef burgers to mouthwatering BBQ, this is homestyle cooking done right. Restaurant hours are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
