Hiking is great and all, but sometimes, it's nice to enjoy nature from the comfort of your vehicle. You can do just that on Rio Grande Village Drive, a 20-mile scenic route that winds through the remote West Texas desert.

Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive isn't the only road worth traveling in Big Bend Country.

Next time you're in the area, hop on the Rio Grande Village Drive for a 20-mile adventure through the remote West Texas desert.

The drive starts at Panther Junction and meanders its way to Rio Grande Village, leading ever-deeper into the most rugged landscape the park has to offer.

You'll see all sorts of native wildlife, including roadrunners, coyote, rabbits, and javelina.

If you need to stretch your legs for a bit, several great hiking trails are located along the way.

There's also a seasonal Visitor Center, campground, and general store.

About midway along the drive, you'll come upon a tunnel carved out of the rocky terrain.

Just beyond it lies a scenic overlook that boasts unparalleled views of the mountainous topography. Definitely plan on stopping to take some pictures!

Follow the road to its very end for a little-known, three-mile hike to Boquilles Canyon.

It takes you right down to the almighty Rio Grande - during the warmer months, bring a swimsuit and take a dip before heading back.

Each season brings different scenery, and springtime is one of our personal favorites.

Breathtaking wildflowers line the road, and they're truly a sight to see.

Unlike many drives in the Big Bend area, this one is relatively smooth and doesn't require an off-road vehicle.

That means it's perfect for families with kids and pets, offering the same views you know and love without any of the potential danger.
