Tiny Towns In Tennessee Where HUGE Things Happened
Here's the thing: we may be small, but we sure do make history. Tennessee has managed to wrest its hot little hand into the heart of our nation, and there's no way we're getting rid of it. These tiny towns have made a big impact on the nation, good or bad. Not everything is bright and shiny, but it sure is interesting. Care to join?
1. Dayton

Dayton, Tennessee made headlines in 1925 with the induction of the Scopes Monkey Trial. The hot handed debate took the world by storm, baiting the religious south against evolutionary supporters. John Scopes eventually had to pay a $100 fee for teaching evolution as opposed to creationism, though the verdict was later overturned as unconstitutional.
2. Erwin
We didn't put the picture up, because it's sad. Sweet little Erwin hung murderous Mary the elephant from a crane in 1916.
3. Henning
Pulitzer prize winner Alex Haley was born in Henning, providing the solid foundation for his later works, "Roots."
4. Lynchburg
Hey there, Jack Daniel's. The famous distillery is located here and worked to change the face of whiskey across the world.
5. Oak Ridge
Oak Ridge is well-known as the Secret City, a government research facility that provided the foundation for the elemental atomic bomb in the early twentieth century.
