Collierville in Shelby County may technically be considered a suburb of Memphis, but with a bustling population of 44,000 and a historic main street, there is much to offer the curious traveler.

Collierville was the site of two important battles during the Civil War and was actually burned to the ground in the second battle. It was rebuilt beginning in 1870 and thrived throughout the 20th century.

The Morton Museum is a must-see for exhibits showcasing the town and area's history and permanent exhibits, like the Frisco 1351.

Dating from 1912, this steam locomotive engine, passenger car, and caboose are a great treat for history buffs.

Speaking of its historic square, Collierville's downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2014 it was ranked by Parade Magazine as the "Best Main Street" in America.

Every Friday night in the spring and summer, there's a Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Jam.

People come from all over to participate, or just to sit and enjoy the wonderful free music!
