No matter where your travels take you, you are guaranteed to find a rest stop or two along the way; however, you’re unlikely to find a rest stop like one specific Chamberlain rest area! When it comes to beautiful, one-of-a-kind rest stops, the Chamberlain rest stop is one unique SoDak stop that is so worth pulling over for.
If you ever find yourself traveling along I-90 and need to get out to stretch, there is no better place to do so than the Lewis And Clark Interpretive & Keelboat Center in Chamberlain!
Unlike most rest stops, Lewis and Clark has not only a clean restroom and area to walk around, but also a hands-on history lesson that commemorates the Lewis & Clark 1803-1806 expedition.
From informative murals to special exhibits and even a 55-foot-long replica of the explorer's keelboat, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this FREE museum.
In addition to the museum, the grounds of the Chamberlain Information Center boast a tranquil picnic area...
...a designated walking path...
...and the pièce de résistance: SoDak's beloved Dignity.
Overlooking the Missouri River, Dignity is a must-see 50-foot-tall stainless steel statue that honors South Dakota's indigenous Lakota and Dakota peoples.
Trust us; this photo does not do the actual sculpture justice!
The Lewis And Clark Interpretive & Keelboat Center/Chamberlain Information Center is located at I-90 (Exit 264) in Chamberlain and is open every day.
