Summer's sun-soaked days always go by so quickly, don't they? We have a limited time to pack in a whole lot of fun, which means we must be organized so we can do everything we want in a few short months. A bucket list is an easy way to help us create the best summer yet. If you're short on time or unsure where to start, add these fun adventures to your Rhode Island summer bucket list.
1. Spend a day at your favorite beach.
Summer in Rhode Island means beach days galore. Mark your calendar for a day or two at your favorite sandy beach, or hit the highway on a road trip to the best hidden gem beaches in Rhode Island. Pack all of your beach gear, plenty of snacks, and your camera before hitting the road to the secluded Vaill Beach, Wuskenau Town Beach, and Third Beach, among others.
2. Slip down slides at a water park.
Staying cool on those hot summer days in Rhode Island means escaping into the A/C or heading to our favorite water park. Yawgoo Valley Ski Area & Water Park promises plenty of family-friendly fun whether you want to soak up the sun poolside or zip down slides into crystal-clear water. Grab a bite from the snack bar, and enjoy a picnic at one of the tables, shaded by an umbrella.
3. Chase waterfalls on a hike.
We have dozens of beautiful hiking trails in Rhode Island that lead us through lush forests, past shimmering ponds, and to breathtaking waterfalls. When you're up for a day outdoors, go on one of the best waterfall hikes in Rhode Island. Visit such epic cascades at Stepstone Falls and the waterfall at Hunt's Mill.
4. Day trip to Block Island
Climb aboard a ferry for a day trip or a weekend getaway to Block Island, where you'll find so much - from shopping and dining out to hiking and boating - to fill your itinerary. Visit Mohegan Bluffs, Lewis-Dickens Farm Wildlife Refuge, and Fred Benson Town Beach. If you're a fan of searching for sea glass, you won't find a better place than West Beach.
5. Go on a scenic cruise.
You don't have to carve out an entire day for summer fun. Sometimes all you need is a few hours. Enjoy the golden summer sunshine or drink in the mesmerizing colors of a Rhode Island sunset on a scenic bay cruise with Coastal Queen Cruises. Open from May through November, the cruise operator offers guided tours that leave from Newport. Cruises are wheelchair accessible.
6. Escape on a summer getaway.
How about treating yourself to a relaxing summer getaway at an Airbnb in Rhode Island? Whether you prefer a cozy seaside cottage or a unique glamping experience, you'll find just the right Airbnb for your summer retreat.
7. Enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream treat.
We can't let summer go by without at least one visit, or probably a lot of visits, to our favorite old-fashioned ice cream shop in Rhode Island. Josie's Ice Cream Shop in Cumberland features outdoor seating and scoops some of the best ice cream treats - cones, sundaes, and shakes - around.
