Wintertime doesn’t have to mean staying cooped up in the house, counting down the days until spring. We have so many opportunities for adventure – from setting off on a bewitching hiking trail to sashaying down the slopes – that getting outdoors makes the days so much fun. This small town in Pennsylvania leaps alive during the winter, and it’s just a short jaunt from several popular winter attractions.
With a population of just over 1,200, the quaint town of Hawley, especially sprinkled with snow, looks like it belongs on an old-fashioned postcard. While it’s picture-perfect all year round, you’ll definitely want to plan a visit during winter.
If you’re craving fresh air, set off on the Lake Wallenpaupack Trail. The picturesque path measures 2.6 miles and is considered easy. It leads past stunning views of the lake, particularly pretty when frozen.
Hawley’s also within less than a half an hour from several must-visit winter destinations, including Ski Big Bear, Promised Land State Park, and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, the latter of which is popular for watching the bald eagles.
Explore indoors, too, starting with a visit to the Hawley Silk Mill. In addition to hosting special events, the silk mill is home to several unique shops.
Stop by Downtown Hawley, where you can check out the unique shops and grab a bite to eat at one of the town’s popular restaurants.
No matter how long you stay in Hawley, make sure you treat yourself to a meal at Glass – wine. bar. kitchen, a charming restaurant nestled in the Ledges Hotel.

The restaurant, which offers greenhouse seating during the winter, overlooks the spellbinding Paupack Falls. Drink in the stellar views of the frozen waterfall, flanked by snowy scenery, from one of the greenhouses.
Hawley also hosts an annual Winterfest that’s usually held in early December each year. The weekend festival features a full menu of fun, from a parade with Santa to horse-drawn carriage rides.
