Reading, Pennsylvania, known as the pretzel capital of the world, offers a variety of attractions and historic pretzel bakeries.

Many are familiar with Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery in nearby Lititz, but Sturgis didn't remain in the darling small town after starting his pretzel bakery. He moved to Reading in 1861, where the family name is still familiar to this day.

Just a few years prior, another pretzel baker, Benjamin Lichtenthaler, also moved to Reading and began a pretzel factory.

During its heyday, Reading had more than two dozen pretzel factories and produced a third of all pretzels in the United States.
