Experience Spooky Season in Oregon’s Own Halloween Town

This small town takes Halloween to a whole new level.

St. Helens is one small town that knows how to celebrate Halloween in style. In fact, it may be the best Halloween town in Oregon! Every year, this magical community transforms into a terrifying Halloween wonderland. The town, which was made famous by Disney's "Halloweentown," comes alive during the epic, month-long Spirit of Halloweentown celebration. Take a look:

The annual Spirit of Halloweentown celebration takes place during the month of October in St. Helens, and ranks supreme as the best place to celebrate this spooky time of the year. The town embraces the holiday spirit with costume contests, haunted houses, ghost walks, spooky adventures, and more.

"Halloweentown" is a classic Disney Channel Original Movie from 1998. The film focuses on the adventures of Marnie Cromwell (Kimberly J. Brown), a young teenager who is fascinated with all things magical. On her 13th Halloween, she finds out she is a witch and is transported to Halloweentown. She works with her grandmother, who is also a witch, to save the town from evil.

What makes St. Helens unique is that "Halloweetown" was filmed in town, and each year, it recreates this fictional, spooky, and delightful destination. In fact, they even recreate the giant pumpkin in front of City Hall.

To celebrate, St. Helens hosts the Spirit of Halloweentown, a month-long event with plenty of opportunities for spooky photo ops and Halloween fun. There are so many events here that you could spend a week and still not see them all—hence, the reason St. Helens gives you a month to take it all in.

You can enjoy activities like the Alien experience, a haunted house, and filming location tour train rides. Walk around the Vendor Village and step into the Enchanted Games Courtyard, where you can find all types of family-friendly festive games. We love the Pumpkin Plaza, where you’ll walk through Halloween decorations that make you feel like you are walking through scenes in the film. You may even come across performers and photo-worthy displays.

You’ll also want to watch the Spirit of Halloweentown calendar closely, as celebrities and well-known performers will also be making an appearance throughout the month. You may even see some of your favorite characters from the movie.

Although entry into the Spirit of Halloweentown Festival is free, many of the special events require an admission fee. You can learn more about the event, including admission prices, access to an event schedule, and more, on the Spirit of Halloweentown website.
