10 Reasons Why PDX Is The Best Airport In The Country, Hands Down

Travel and Leisure magazine's readers have voted Portland International Airport the best domestic airport for several years running, but here in Portland we knew our airport was great already. PDX is a great place to travel from or to, and it comes with its own style, entertainment, and ease. Here are the top 10 reasons to love our local airport.

1. The Carpet

The airport carpet has become an internet celebrity of sorts. When it was replaced a couple years back, everyone was trying to get their last foot selfies on the carpet, marking their arrival and departure from the City of Roses. Thankfully, they replaced it with a pretty similar pattern so the trend can continue.

2. Local Coffee

When Coffee People closed in 2015, travelers were left to drink non-local coffee. But knowing Portland, that didn't stand long. Portland Roasting Coffee has taken over the local coffee spot and we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

3. Short Security Waits

No matter what time of day you are traveling, things at PDX move along smoothly. It is rare to have to wait more than 10 minutes at security, and we are all happier for it.

4. Proximity to Public Transport

Once you gather your bags, you can just walk right out of the airport and hop on the Max train to the city center. It literally couldn't be any easier.

5. Close Parking

Speaking of easy, parking is pretty hassle-free too. It is close to the terminals and requires just a short walk. Easy in, easy out, and reasonable prices all make parking here a breeze.

6. Quick Bags

Speaking of ease, baggage claim is pretty on point as well. By the time you deplane and head down to baggage claim, chances are your bags will be spinning on the belt and you will be ready to head home without delays.

7. Great Artwork

PDX always has some great art to look at on your journey. Whether it is knitted scenes, originals or prints, there is something to spark everyone's creative interest here.

8. Movies

Speaking of creative interest, you can pop into the free theater in the airport to catch a local movie short while you wait. Featuring Oregon filmmakers, the movies shown here are quick 5 to 10 minute stories that are a perfect break from your travels.

9. On Time Flights

We successfully get planes off the ground on time. According to Travel and Leisure Magazine, 85 percent of flights arriving to and departing from PDX last year did so within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. What is not to love about that?

10. Good Eats

You don't even have to leave the airport to enjoy some of Portland's famed foods. Enjoy favorites like Blue Star Donuts, Laurelwood Public House and Brewery, Kenny and Zukes, Tamale Boy, Burgerville and more, all in the airport.
