This Haunted Road Trip Will Lead You To The Scariest Places In Portland

Portland is one of the most haunted cities in Oregon. With many old souls slinking around the city after dark, this haunting tour might make you want to stay indoors this Halloween season. If you dare, take this road trip around Portland to the city's most haunted locations and see if you can scare up a spirit or two.

1. Cathedral Park

Head over the park just below the St. John's Bridge, which was the home of a gruesome murder of a 15-year-old girl in 1949. It is rumored that she still haunts the park, and this is one spooky place to be especially at night.

2. White Eagle

Thought to be haunted by a lingering ghost, this bar has been home to many paranormal activities over the years.

3. Lone Fir Cemetery

This pioneer-era cemetery is home to over 25,000 souls, making it prime real estate for spotting a spirit. Spooky as can be, especially after nightfall, the cemetery is one of the city's largest.

4. Bagdad Theater

Thought to be haunted by a stagehand who committed suicide backstage at the theater, this McMenamins property can be downright spooky. Both patrons and employees have reported the strong sense that someone was watching them at the theater.

5. Hollywood Theater

This vintage theater is said to be home to many friendly ghosts, including a well-dressed man who purportedly has been known to tap guests on the shoulder or simply be present in the room, creeping plenty of visitors out.

6. Pittock Mansion

The spirits of the former inhabitants, Henry and Georgiana Pittock, are said to still live in this stately home. Windows open on their own, casting a chill into the house. People have reported hearing footsteps when no one is around and paintings move on their own, all pointing to the presence of unworldly beings.

7. Benson Hotel

This downtown landmark is thought to be haunted by its first owner, Portland businessman and philanthropist, Simon Benson.

8. The Heathman Hotel

Paranormal activity has been reported in several rooms of this 1920s-era hotel. Cold spots, strange sounds and creepy shadows have all been reported here.

9. Portland Underground Tour

If you are scared of dark basements, this is really going to freak you out. Travel underground Old Town Portland to the interconnected tunnels which are thought to have been used as holding cells for residents being illegally sold into a life of labor on ships leaving the port. Needless to say, there are many spirits that remain underground for the haunting.

Thankfully, the tour ends downtown, where you are able to stop in a bar and have a drink to calm your nerves.
