Take This Amazing 2-Day Getaway In Oklahoma If You Need A Break From Real Life
Are you feeling the need to relax now that the busy holiday season is over? Lucky for us, the Sooner State has many retreats and hidden getaways that are perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. One of my favorite places to go for a relaxing weekend is in southern Oklahoma, to the charming resort town of Medicine Park, alongside The Wichita Mountains. Here's a full itinerary for your 2-day getaway:
Day 1 will begin in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Stop into the Visitors Center to get a map and additional information before heading into the refuge.
Once inside, the possibilities are endless for your day. If you just want to relax and stay in your car, you can drive to the top of Mt. Scott.
But I think you'll want to get out and soak in the beauty that surrounds you. Don't worry, you won't have to venture off very far to get a few jaw-dropping photos.
If you love nature, you'll want to do a bit more than just drive around. The refuge is filled with hidden gems that you can access if you get out and do a little walking or (a lot) of hiking.
Beautiful wildlife is all around the Wichita Mountains. From elk to bison to deer, you'll probably see it all throughout the day.
Make sure you stay long enough to see an exquisite sunset...it's one of the best places in the state to see one.
After the sun goes down, head back into Medicine Park where you'll be staying the night at the charming Stardust Inn - a cozy Bed and Breakfast that has been featured in Southern Living Magazine. Please note that Stardust Inn has permanently closed.
Stardust Inn offers four rooms, all decorated in an American West theme with top notch amenities.
After you get all checked-in at Stardust Inn, enjoy a delicious meal at the The Old Plantation Inn in downtown Medicine Park.
When you wake on Day 2, enjoy your cup of coffee from the front porch at Stardust Inn. The setting is so relaxing and quiet overlooking the beautiful grounds.
Day 2 is going to be enjoyed in the cobblestone town of Medicine Park. Cobblestone Row - the central part of town - is filled with unique shops, dining and recreational activities.
You can rent bikes, walk the town, swim in Bath Creek, soak up the beauty of nature or just relax under a quiet tree.
Grab some lunch or dinner before heading out of town at the Riverside Cafe in Medicine Park. They serve all the American favorites for lunch and dinner, and it overlooks the river that runs right through town.
