Can’t Make It to the Beach? Try This North Carolina Lakefront Alternative
Boasting million-dollar views, this North Carolina Lakefront Airbnb is a perfect alternative to the beach.
Summertime typically means at least one beach trip. Spending a week in the Outer Banks is a time-honored tradition for many. It’s actually where I spent my 30th birthday. We all know North Carolina’s beaches are the best, but sometimes life just gets in the way and we can’t make it over to the coast. Don’t worry; I’ve found a lakefront alternative that checks off all the boxes and scratches that itch for beach bums.
There are plenty of lakefront vacation rentals in North Carolina, but I don’t know if any of them can compare to this one.
Boasting four bedrooms with seven beds and 3.5 bathrooms, this lakefront rental in North Carolina is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s located in Topton and overlooks the beautiful Nantahala Lake.
From the moment you walk through the door, you’ll be amazed. The Great Room’s massive windows give you a million-dollar view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
There is plenty of seating, and the open concept design makes it easy for the whole gang to be together without feeling cramped. Someone could be whipping up a storm in the kitchen and still be able to join in the conversation in the living room.
The wooden accents give off cabin vibes, which is ideal since you certainly want to feel immersed with nature here. Down on the lower level, a game room with a pool table, a poker table, a bar with a mini fridge, and a television to ensure there’s never a dull moment. And those lakefront views? They can be seen from just about every room in the house!
Each floor has a deck with seating to keep those views going. Personally, this hammock is where you’d find me for the duration of the trip. Check out the ping pong table in the background! There’s also a six-person hot tub on the lower deck.
The lake is clearly the star of the show, and the vacation rental does an impressive job of highlighting it. Lake Nantahala is one of the most unique lakes in the country, by the way. The lake sits at over 3,000 feet of elevation, making it the second highest lake east of the Mississippi. The water quality is excellent, and it’s one of the few East Coast lakes that can support lake trout, bass, walleye, and even salmon. Feel free to bring your tackle box, just don’t forget your fishing license.
Guests are welcome to explore the lake further in the complimentary kayak or two-person canoe. A nearby marina offers boat rentals if you really want to have some aquatic adventures! I’d recommend bringing some inflatable tubes and some rope so you can float in the cove while tethered to the dock.
While the Airbnb is in a gated neighborhood, you’re certainly in a secluded spot. The closest grocery store is 30 minutes away, so plan accordingly! Despite the secluded location, you’ll still have all of the amenities you’re used to (including WiFi).
