We've got so many beautiful regions in the Empire State that it's difficult to just pick one to explore. If you're looking for a day trip in New York, where do you go? The Adirondacks? The Catskills? The Big Apple? All of these are great choices, but today we're going to focus on a region that's not quite as popular of a vacation spot: the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. This area boasts natural beauty, some amazing wineries, and plenty of activities to enjoy.

The trip's total driving time is not even two hours, making it a great option for a day trip in New York's most scenic region.

Atwater Vineyards: 5055 NY-414, Burdett, NY 14818

We'll start this trip on the on the southeast side of Seneca Lake, at Atwater Vineyards. This 80-acre estate winery boasts some of the best lakeside views you can imagine. Reservations are required for a visit, so make sure to check out the winery's website before heading out.

One of the more luxurious wineries in New York is Belhurst Castle, which looks like something out of a fairy tale. The neat thing about this place is not only is it a winery and craft brewery, there are also three hotels on site. The Windmill Farm and Craft Market: 3900 NY-14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527

As if you need another reason to be excited about spring, it's the season when flea markets and craft fairs reopen for the year. One of the best farm markets in New York is The Windmill in the charming little town of Penn Yan. Here, you'll find nearly 200 local vendors peddling handmade goods, homegrown foods, and more.
