We've narrowed down some of our favorite places and created a day trip you've got to try out at least once this year. You'll need a designated driver on this excursion, but even your booze-free buddies will have a blast. Scenic and serene, you're in for an unforgettable adventure centered around the "3Ws"...Waterfalls, Wolves, and Wine.
Your day will start at Tillman Falls in Walpack.
One of New Jersey's lesser known waterfalls, it's about a 1/4-mile hike from the parking lot off Tillman Road in Walpack (within the borders of Stokes State Forest). It's absolutely spectacular following recent rainfall...check it out in the video below by NJ.com.

Your next stop is just minutes away and equally stunning. This cascade is one of the most popular natural wonders in New Jersey.
Buttermilk Falls is located off Mountain Road in Layton. While there are hiking trails in the area, it's up to you if you want to hop on one, and you truly don't even need to stray far from your car! You can see the falls right from the parking lot! At 200' high, this in New Jersey's tallest waterfall - there are interpretive displays and a viewing platform allows you to look out right over the water.
You're definitely going to want to check out the viewing platform!
Your outdoor adventure isn't over yet -- after your visit to Buttermilk Falls, head to the Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia.
The Wolf Preserve is a world-class attraction that you'll find right here in the Garden State. Tours are held most days of the week; reservations are necessary for weekday tours. Wolf Watches begin at 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., registration begins 1/2 hour before tour start times. Each Wolf Watch tour is 60-75 minutes long. The unforgettable tours allow you to observe wolves up close and is an affordable way to get in touch with our country's wild side.
After you've learned all you can about wolves, time for some wine! The day's first winery is Brook Hollow.
This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a late lunch. Tastings are $10 and the winery sells two bottles that benefit Lakota Wolf Preserve (or Antler Ridge Wildlife Sanctuary...your choice). The setting is so peaceful and you're free to pack a picnic. You can also pick up food nearby at the local Taco Bell, McDonalds, or Pizza Hut.
We've got one more place to visit before the day winds down -- the last stop offers one-of-a-kind tours and tastings!
