I've got a big list of Christmas towns coming up. New Jersey has so much going on during the holiday season. However, if I had to single out a street, it would probably be...Kings Highway in Haddonfield. The town's main drag, you won't want to miss their special Candlelight Shopping events. A Haddonfield Christmas is unlike any other. You'll feel like you've been transported into the middle of a Hallmark holiday movie.
Haddonfield is a charming historic town that played a major role in both the Revolutionary War and the field of paleontology. But we're not here to talk about muskets and dinosaurs. We're here to talk about twinkle lights and evergreen trees.
The New Jersey Legislature met at Haddonfield's Indian King Tavern during the war and declared New Jersey an independent state there in 1777. It is now a museum. As for paleontology, one of the most complete dinosaur skeletons ever found was discovered in the town in 1858.
There's a lot to love about the town and it's worth visiting all year long. However, it's extra special during the holiday season. With all the spirit of a closely-knit small town, Haddonfield does it up right for the holiday season.
Crowds flock here for the annual Candlelight Shopping tradition, where you can get all your Christmas shopping out of the way in one fell swoop while supporting local businesses.
The town's main street, King's Highway, is home to a variety of incredible small businesses and delightful restaurants. This makes it a great place for gift shopping.
These businesses stay open late for Candlelight Shopping events. The event typically runs on weekends from late November until just before Christmas. Hours vary but evening events tend to run until 9 p.m.
Shops to check out include Ahead of the Pack (for pampered pets), Duffy's Fine Chocolates, The English Gardener Gift Shop (a personal favorite, filled with goodies from across the pond), Happy Hippo (toys), and Inkwood Books.
As you can tell from this list, the shops in Haddonfield are diverse, allowing you to find wonderful gifts for everyone on your list. After all that energetic holiday gifting, you'll want to be sure to grab a bite at one of the awesome local restaurants also lining Main Street.
And even though we love shopping, that's not all that the event is about!
Visitors will enjoy a variety of live music and free carriage rides. And, of course, every year Santa will come to visit and the town's tree will be lit.
These later nights on Main Street are about celebrating the holiday spirit and enjoying being together as much as they are about supporting small businesses and getting shopping done.
