When it comes to "cool," New Jersey is no stranger. We're home to one of the coolest cities on the East Coast - Asbury Park. It's home to a pinball museum, paranormal museum, multiple music venues, a beautiful boutique hotel and plenty of trendy dining options. To learn more about what the Jersey Shore gem has to offer, click here.
Then, you've got towns like Montclair, Hoboken and Jersey City. All have gotten accolades for their awesomeness. Hoboken frequently tops lists when it comes to best places to live...just check out this article. Unfortunately, it costs a fortune. Lucky for us New Jerseyans, we've got options. One of our most vibrant small towns is also quite affordable (by Garden State standards). Check it out!
Haddonfield is a charming town with an abundance of history.
Haddonfield is home to the second oldest volunteer fire company in continuous service in the United States. Haddon Fire Company No. 1 was established as Friendship Fire Company on March 8, 1764. In 1971, Haddonfield became the second municipality in New Jersey (after Cape May) to establish a historic preservation district.
It is home to significant sites like the Indian King Tavern, now a museum.
New Jersey officially became a state here, when General Assembly met in 1777 and declared it so. In 1903, the facility became New Jersey's first State Historic Site. Visit Wednesday-Sunday.
The town is also home to the Hadrosaurus Foulkii discovery site.
Collected in 1858, the Hadrosaurus was the first dinosaur species known from more than isolated teeth to be identified in North America. These fossils went on to become the first ever mounted dinosaur skeleton. You can visit the site, in Pennypacker Park (there's a small plaque) and enjoy a beautiful statue downtown.
But that's not all that makes Haddonfield "cool."
It's the shopping, dining and events which make it shine! You'll find clothing boutiques, book stores, home goods and gifts! A few favorites include A Taste Of Olive (gourmet goods including olive oil, vinegar, glazes, rubs, spices and spreads), Gorshin Trading Post (man cave meets general store) and The English Gardener Gift Shop (an amazing selection of goods from across the pond). When it comes to dining, The British Chip shop can't be missed (a taste of the UK) and The Bistro is also a fantastic choice. If you have a sweet tooth, visit Indulgence Cupcakery, Posh Pop Bake Shop or Sweet Charlies (made-to-order ice cream). Visit Haddonfield on September 7th for Night Market, a food truck festival.
Absolutely charming with a very walkable downtown, you won't want to miss it. Just ten minutes outside of Philadelphia, the town wasn't always a must-visit destination. Thanks to a Business District Improvement Project that started in 2004, it's grown from a Philly suburb to holding its own. To learn more about the Gorshin Trading Post, click here.
