What Life Is Like Inside This Living Ghost Town In Nevada
Ione, Nevada is a remarkably well-preserved ghost town that has been abandoned for over 70 years.
Ione, Nevada is a ghost town in Nye County, Nevada. It's been abandoned for more than 70 years, but the town's buildings and interiors look like their owners walked away just yesterday. This footage from YouTube channel "Explore With Us" shows just how incredibly well preserved Ione really is.
Ione was established in 1863 after silver was discovered in the area.
The town was mostly deserted in 1914, though the Ione post office didn’t close until April 30, 1959.
Today, the town is almost eerily preserved. About 40 residents still technically own land in Ione, but there’s absolutely no one around.
Ione is nicknamed "The Town that Refused to Die." Even after more than 100 years of being almost completely empty, the town is still clinging to life.
