9 Picture Perfect Fall Day Trips To Take In Montana

Discover the best fall activities in Montana, from scenic drives to local festivals and pumpkin patches.

Between the apple orchards, pumpkin patches and vibrant fall foliage, Montana is a spectacular place to be in the autumn. And as many of us are breathing sighs of relief at the sight of rain in the forecast this week (and the funds the state has been granted for its three biggest fires), it looks like we may be able to enjoy a beautiful fall here in the Treasure State.

The time is right to start planning a few local October trips. If you can only get away for a single day and you live near any of these destinations, add them to your fall bucket list.

1. Head to Vaughn and spend the day at Applestem Corn Maize and Pumpkin Patch.

Is there anything for perfect for autumn?

2. Drive the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway.

This 49 mile scenic byway goes from Highway 43 at Wise River south to Highway 278. It's especially stunning in the fall.

3. Take a fall foliage road trip.

While it's true that our wildfires have affected some of our state's fall foliage, there will still be plenty to see.

4. Visit Butte for Butte-toberfest.

How does Butte always wind up with the best festivals? This year's Butte-toberfest is Saturday, October 7.

5. Drive to Whitefish and check out the beautiful fall hues in the area.

If you're there from September 28-30, you'll make it to Great Northwest Oktoberfest.

6. Spend a relaxing afternoon at Backroad Cider in Hamilton.

They're open Wednesday - Saturday from 3-9, and nothing says "fall" like drinking cider at the place where it's born.

7. Recharge your batteries at Chico Hot Springs.

When the autumn chill hits the air, hit the hot springs. The scenery in this area is stunning this time of year.

8. Come see what fall does to Fort Benton.

You'll love it.

9. Drive to Kalispell and spend some time at Sweet Pickin's Pumpkin Patch.

This is an autumn-themed dream land. The kettle corn alone is worth the drive.

Fall is such a gorgeous season here in Montana. Use our ultimate fall bucket list to enjoy it to the fullest.
