This Tiny Town In Missouri Has A Little Bit Of Everything
Macon, Missouri offers a blend of outdoor recreation, antique shopping, and great dining, making it an ideal small-town getaway.
It sometimes seems like St. Louis and Kansas City get the best of everything. These cities have major theaters, professional sports teams, shopping malls, restaurants and more. However, what they don't have is the slow paced charm of small town life. While you can find green space to enjoy in the city, nothing compares to the sprawling state parks that you'll find spread out between our two largest cities. With a population of just over 5,000, Macon is the perfect size for a thriving small town. You'll find that Macon has everything you need and just a bit more!
Long Branch State Park is one of the biggest attractions in Macon. This beautiful park features a large lake and a swimming beach.
Hike the trails, rent a kayak, or go fishing on Long Branch Lake. Its also the perfect place to watch wildlife.
If you're not an outdoorsy person, you can catch a show at the Maples Repertory Theatre. Mapels rep has been a staple in the northern Missouri arts scene since they opened their doors in 2008.
There is also great shopping in Macon if you enjoy antiques. They have four great antique shops in town and a Ben Franklin. The Macon Ben Franklin is one of the few five and dime stores left in the state.
Grab dinner at AJ's Eat and Drink. It's the best spot in town for a cold beer and juicy burger.
AJ's menu has something for everyone. Choose from sandwiches, burgers, seafood, steaks, and pastas off their large menu. Don't forget to try their awesome desserts.
In historic downtown Macon, visit West Winery. This little tasting room is the perfect place to drink Missouri wines. Try their blackberry wine for a unique, new flavor experience.
