The Small Town in Missouri That Comes Alive During the Winter Season

Embark on one of the best winter getaways in Missouri with a visit to Branson. From an indoor waterpark to ice skating, it has something for everyone.

Wintertime might be the most peaceful time of year. A winter stroll usually means quiet, fewer crowds, and the silence of nature. If we prefer staying toasty, we can curl up with a good book and a hot drink on a snowy winter day. But sometimes we want a little bit of excitement, too. Whether you’re craving quiet or adventure, you’ll find plenty of it all winter long in this small town, one of the best winter getaways in Missouri.

Branson is known for its many attractions that draw millions of visitors summer after summer. Even after summer’s tourists have gone home, this vibrant town of just over 12,800 comes alive with fall and winter fun. No matter your perfect winter adventure, you’ll find some of the best things to do in Branson, Missouri. A full menu of outdoor and indoor attractions helps heat those frigid winter days.

One of the best ways to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the outdoors is to marvel at the wintery landscape aboard The Branson Ferris Wheel. It’s generally open all year round weather permitting. (Days and hours may vary by season.) If you visit Branson through early January, you can glide around the ice rink, which sits in the wheel's shadow. My favorite way to spend a chilly winter afternoon is bundled up, ice skating, breathing in the cool air, and trying not to fall.

Immerse yourself in the quiet of the season by spending time in nature. Set off on one of the scenic hiking trails in Branson. Table Rock State Park is home to nearly half a dozen hiking trails and is particularly pretty during winter in Missouri.

Too cold for spending hours outdoors? Or maybe you’re just yearning for a bit of summer? Book a stay at the Grand Country Resort. Bring your swimming gear because it's summer all year at Splash Country Waterpark, an epic indoor waterpark in Branson that boasts a variety of attractions. Get soaked by standing under the tipping bucket; float peacefully along the lazy river, and shed your worries by relaxing in the hot tub. Entrance to the waterpark is free for guests. If you're not staying at Grand Country Resort, buy a pass for a day of summer fun during the coldest spells of winter.

Spend some time in Historic Downtown Branson, too, where you can go shopping, dig into a delicious meal, and attempt to break out of an escape room in just 60 minutes.
