An Unexpected Restaurant Is Hiding Underground In This Small Town In Mississippi

The Underground Café in Hernando offers unique, made-from-scratch Cajun American cuisine in a hidden basement location.

Some states are packed with underground sites and attractions. Mississippi? Not so much, but they do exist, and the Underground Café is one of them. The aptly named restaurant is tucked away in the basement of a building. Aside from the unique location, it’s the made-from-scratch cuisine that customers can’t stop talking about. Take a closer look at the one-of-a-kind eatery below.

A local favorite, the Underground Cafe is located in Hernando’s town square on Memphis Street.

A hidden gem, visitors have to venture down a set of steep stairs in order to access the restaurant.

Once inside, diners can grab a seat and look over the "Cajun American" inspired menu.

Or check out the Daily Specials, which always include a steak or seafood option and the soup of the day.

The authentic Cajun fare includes dishes like shrimp and grits, etouffee, and jambalaya.

Gumbo along with shrimp, oyster, crawfish, and catfish po'boys are a few other southern favorites included on the menu.

There's also a variety of “legendary” sandwiches, such as the Chicken Philly, Classic Reuben, Chicken Cordon Bleu, half pound Angus burgers...

and a customer favorite, the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.

And for dessert? The house specialty, Bananas Foster, has been raved about, making it a must-try.
