The Small Minnesota Town That Transforms Into A Watermelon Wonderland Each Year
Kellogg, Minnesota, hosts an annual Watermelon Festival that features various community events and activities for all ages.
Here in Minnesota, we have a lot of big things to celebrate. We have great schools, arts and culture, and more than 10,000 sparkling lakes. But we Minnesotans love to celebrate the little things in life, too. Small-town festivals are the bread and butter of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. All across the state, communities gather to celebrate everything from pie to fish to fruit. At the end of every summer, Kellogg, Minnesota, holds a charming watermelon festival that you don't want to miss. Check it out:
Kellogg, Minnesota, is a small town in southeastern Minnesota. It has a population of less than 500 people.
Though it's nearly 100 miles from the Twin Cities, Kellogg residents and out-of-towners alike come out in droves for the annual Watermelon Festival.
It's no wonder people love this small-town festival. It's held in charming downtown Kellogg, and the whole community gets involved.
There are events for people of all ages. Kids love the Sawdust Scramble. What will they find in the dust?
Other children's events include a carnival, food, and even a kiddie parade!
There's a regular parade, too. Local businesses and organizations will put on a show, and you'll even see some watermelon royalty.
Another great event? The Watermelon Crawl.
Racers from all over gather to walk, run, and crawl their way to the finish line.
Of course, you can't leave without eating your weight in watermelon.
This charming festival is not to be missed! In 2018, you can join in on the festivities on September 7-9. Learn more about the festival on its website here. And follow them on Facebook here.
