Red Wing is a beautiful town nestled among the hills of Minnesota's bluff country.
With a population of about 16,000 people, Red Wing is not to big or too small. You'll find plenty to do, but plenty of quiet too.
The town's most famous landmark is Barn Bluff, a bluff that rises about 400 feet above the town.
The top of the bluff can be accessed via the Kiwanis Staircase, a long set of stairs that leads straight to the top.
At the summit, you'll have an incredible view of Red Wing, the Mississippi River, and even Wisconsin to the east. This alone makes Red Wing worth visiting.
But there is plenty more to see and do. A river town, Red Wing has easy access to the Mississippi River and is near the popular Lake Pepin.
Downtown Red Wing is also a wonder to behold. With the bluff rising above them, the busy streets are bursting with charm. Many of the buildings are historic, dating back to the early days of Red Wing.
The downtown area is home to parks that have lots of greenery. They'd be perfect for a leisurely stroll or even a picnic.
If you're looking for a bite to eat, Red Wing has many great restaurants to choose from. Local shops and eateries line the downtown streets.
And don't forget to check out the Pottery Museum of Red Wing. Here, you'll find over 6,000 pieces of Red Wing stoneware, including a few 70-gallon crocks made for the 1923 Minnesota State Fair. If you love antiques, this is a must-stop spot for you.
If you're looking for a quirky stop, check out the World's Largest Boot at the Red Wing Museum. This spot is another one that pays tribute to a world-famous product that put Red Wing on the map. Like Red Wing stoneware, Red Wing boots are an important facet of the town's history.
When planning your visit, also be sure to check out any town events. Local musicians often perform at Central Park during warm months.
The town has many other events as well. From classic car shows to fireworks displays, the year is cram-packed with fun.
No matter how you decide to spend your time in Red Wing, you're sure to be blown away by this beautiful, enchanting town.
