Who doesn't love a long weekend? If you have three days coming up and you'd like to use those days for exploring, consider taking this Maryland road trip. This journey takes you to over three waterfalls, plus it has two great hotels to stop at along the way. There's so much natural beauty to see when you partake in this weekend road trip in Maryland.
You can start at either end of this Maryland road trip, or even hop on the route for just a part of the journey.
Kilgore Falls (Pylesville)
Moving from east to west, Kilgore Falls would be the first stop. You must complete a short hike to reach the falls (under a mile) and keep in mind that parking passes are required on the weekends during summertime. Once you reach Kilgore Falls, you'll want to snap scenic photos and take a refreshing dip if visiting on a warm day. You can even stand right under the waterfall!
It’s the perfect first stop on your Maryland road trip.
Turf Valley Resort (Ellicott City)
After you've enjoyed your day at the waterfall swimming hole, get back in the car and drive to a relaxing resort in the Ellicott City area. The drive will take a little over an hour but it will be so worth it. Turf Valley Resort is mostly known for golf, but it has so much more to offer, including a delicious restaurant, spa, pool, and manicured grounds that are perfect for an evening stroll.
We love this weekend getaway in Maryland, and think it’s perfect for this road trip!
Great Falls / Billy Goat Trail (Potomac)
Now that you're well rested, prepare for a day of hiking. Great Falls and Billy Goat Trail is a little less than a hour drive from the resort. This gem of the Potomac features rapids and mini waterfalls, as well as several sections of trails. Section A of Billy Goat Trail is a favorite for its rocky views. Be sure to wear shoes with grip as the rocks tend to get wet.
Who doesn’t love getting up close and personal to waterfalls in Maryland?
Bay Farms Bed & Breakfast (Williamsport)
After a day full of hiking, it's time for some relaxation. Bay Farms Bed & Breakfast in Williamsport is full of charm and it's conveniently located near several downtown restaurants. The accommodations are light and airy, and oh-so cozy. In the morning, be sure to grab breakfast (included in your stay) before leaving.
This is another great location for a weekend getaway in Maryland, and we love the cozy, clean atmosphere of the Bay Farms Bed & Breakfast.
Swallow Falls State Park (Oakland)
Now that you've fueled your body with a hearty breakfast, it's time for the last stop. Swallow Falls State Park is about a two-hour drive from the bed & breakfast. It features the pictured waterfall, Muddy Creek Falls, as well as a couple other waterfalls throughout the park. You'll definitely want to hike the one-mile trail between the waterfalls here, which runs right along the Youghiogheny River. Bring your camera -- this park is stunning!
