This Little Roadside Custard Stand In Maine Is Worth The Journey From Anywhere
Hodgman's Frozen Custard in Maine offers a simple yet delightful summer treat with a long-standing family recipe.
Summertime in Maine means fresh air and seafood shacks. But it also means ice cream and that's what we're talking about today. Well, sort of. Custard isn't exactly ice cream but it satisfies a very similar sweet tooth and that's good enough for us! Before the summer is over, take yourself to this delicious little stand and rejoice! Turns out heaven is a place on earth.
The Hodgman family has owned and operated this frozen custard stand since the 1940s. That's nearly 9 decades of a perfected recipe.
The feel of the place is exactly what you'd expect of a roadside stand in Maine. Things here feel simple.
And while the custard is incredible, even that comes with a feel of simplicity and ease.
Flavors are either vanilla or chocolate, along with a special flavor of the week. Depending on the week it might be something like cherry, strawberry or even pumpkin!
While you won't find fancy mix-ins, you WILL find the things we love about roadside custard. Sprinkles, whipped cream and even cookies.
Who needs more than sprinkles? In our opinion, they're all the excitement you'll need with the already creamy and delicious custard.
Of course, you can still jazz things up a bit with nuts and a cherry on top.
And if that's not enough, go for a sundae or a banana boat. The sundaes come in a variety of sizes depending on your level of indulgence. Go for the extra large. At under $7 it's a bargain.
The menu is simple and you'll find it right on the wall.
Whether you keep things simple or go all-out, a visit to Hodgman's feels special. Visit at night for the extra-special feel of those neon lights.
Hodgman's Frozen Custard is open every day with the exception of Monday and Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. You can follow the delicious on Facebook. And they can be reached on 207-926-3553. Address: 1108 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester, ME 04260.
