In operation since 1986, this southern Maine favorite started out selling simple candy. Now, they make their own fudge and chocolates including truly unique concoctions such as "Lobster on the Rocks." 2. Harbor Candy Shop, Ogunquit

This little coastal candy shop is decked out in elegance and beauty. There is no doubt this place is not your typical candy store, but you are stepping into a piece of history. Every inch of this place is covered in splendor and we're not complaining! They've been around since 1956 so you can trust that their homemade goodies are the real deal. 3. Len Libby Candies, Scarborough

We just couldn't bear to only show the outside of this shop. Not when inside there's a lifesize chocolate moose! He's made of 1,700 pounds of milk chocolate. The shop is worth the stop even to just see the moose but inside you will also find a plethora of delicious candies. 4. Haven's Candies, Westbrook

The chocolate here comes from a heritage that is over 100 years old. The store got its start in 1915 by Herbert Haven, who used traditional methods for his wonderful chocolate. 5. Old Port Candy Co., Portland

6. Wilbur’s of Maine Chocolate Confections, Freeport

Found in a regular-looking house (don't miss it!) this chocolate shop has been making their beloved confections since 1983. Check out the chocolate-covered blueberries and the best New England Needhams. Stepping into Chocolate Drop Candy Shop in Belfast, Maine is like taking a step back in time to the 1950s. It offers an array of locally-made, hand-dipped chocolates to satisfy your sweet tooth along with dozens of Jelly Belly flavors, ice cream, and even an old-fashioned soda fountain to remind us of the good ol' days. 8. Ragged Coast Chocolate (formerly Black Dinah Chocolatiers), Westbrook

The name may have changed by the same amazing products are sold. Formerly known as Black Dinah Chocolatiers the name change was made to pay homage to our beautiful coastlines and way of life in Maine. To do a little good when you eat your chocolate in Maine, head to Ragged Coast Chocolates where the chocolate is organic and fairly-traded. Plus, they use things like fresh cream. Owner Monica Elliot uses Peruvian ingredients for her wonderful creations. Get uniquely shaped confections, including salmon, moose, and bears along with lots of fun gift packages.
