Kentucky is famous for its Bourbon Trail, but did you know the state has many top-notch wineries? Right in the heart of horse country, in Midway, Kentucky, you'll find Equus Run Vineyards - the perfect place for a visit on a beautiful day. Whether you're celebrating with a group or looking for a quiet escape, Equus Run is the Kentucky winery for you.
Located outside of charming Midway, Equus Run Vineyards is a wonderful day trip destination. In 1998, the dream and vision of owner Cynthia Bohn came to life when the vineyard first welcomed the community.
Having grown up on a tobacco farm in Kentucky, Cynthia was very familiar with the land and the hard work needed to tend to it. Her knowledge and passion collided and the 35 acres were transformed from a tobacco and cattle farm to a winery, nestled in the heart of horse country.
The atmosphere at Equus Run is peaceful, natural and charming. The stone tasting room was once a small barn and it's the perfect spot to enjoy a glass (or bottle) of one of the vineyard's specialities.
The vineyard welcomes those who just wish to stop for a quick tasting or those who are looking for a picturesque picnic spot. You can pack a picnic basket, purchase a bottle of wine and find your own corner of the property to enjoy.
On the property you'll find a shaded gazebo, putting green, plenty of space to roam and even the South Elkhorn Creek that runs the perimeter. The creek is an ideal fishing spot or bring your kayak for a little adventure.
Equus Runs offers tours so you can learn even more about the growing process and creation of each type of wine. Throughout the vineyard, statues of horses are an appropriate added touch, given the location amongst Kentucky's infamous stone fencing and pastures.
Aside from daily visitors, Equus Run hosts many events throughout the season. You can hold your own event there - it's a gorgeous wedding location - or attend one of the many concerts, while enjoying the wine and scenery.
When you're looking for a day trip to escape everyday life, consider Kentucky's wine country and Equus Run Vineyards. It's a remote, hidden treasure of the state and even the region and will leave you relaxed and planning your next trip to return.
With options like Equus Run, Kentucky may soon be known for its wine, as well as its bourbon. Are you a wine lover? Have you sampled the wine at Equus Run?
