We all know Kentucky is a pretty cool state. We have impressive state parks, excellent college basketball, the best taste in drinks and we know how to live life with an unbridled spirit. But if you're looking for a place that is truly unique and has that rare cool-factor that just makes everything about it seem special, then you're looking for Paducah - a small town along the Ohio River in western Kentucky. Paducah is known as a haven for creative minds, which it is, along with so much more.
Although the definition of "cool" may be relative, most will agree that Paducah, Kentucky can be described with this all-encompassing word. Paducah is a charming town, rooted in history, and filled with passionate people who strive to keep their home lively and welcoming.
One of Paducah's best-known attractions is the National Quilt Museum. The city's involvement and passion for this historic artwork has made Paducah one of only six designated "Creative Cities" in the U.S. The town aims to encourage people to pursue creative passions and acts as the stage to a number of artists, in all kinds of forms.
One of the many places you can view some of these artists' work is at the Bricolage Art Collective. This gallery and shop features local artists and unique gifts and is a cool place to wander into and see what you may discover.
If you're feeling artistic yourself, or you just want to up your own cool-factor, take a hands-on workshop at MAKE. There's no right or wrong to what you create and you'll be encouraged to let your creative juices flow.
Music is also a large part of the community in Paducah and this summer you can experience it right under the Gazebo downtown. This is a great opportunity to slow down, relax and do as the people of Paducah do and simply enjoy a cool, laid back evening.
Of course the coolest town has to have some of the best food. Paducah offers a plethora of delicious options, including Cynthia's California Tuscan Ristorante, pictured below. The ambiance, service and company are just as cool as the fresh recipes.
Paducah also stays true to its Kentucky roots with locally made Moonshine and craft beer options popping up all over. Paducah Beer Werks is one of the coolest places to stop by for an award-winning beer in a friendly atmosphere.
If caffeine is more your cup of tea, Paducah has you covered, too. Pipers Tea & Coffee is located in a historic building, while the owners "blend their passion for tea with their wanderlust spirit." It's a local favorite, which makes it as cool as it is charming.
Paducah earns the right to be called one of the coolest towns in the country because it has chosen to create its own identity, while still proudly representing the Bluegrass State. This historic river town will surprise you with unique experiences and creative endeavors. Whether you visit for one of the many festivals, to see their museums or stay in a delightful bed and breakfast, you'll leave relaxed, inspired and definitely cooler.
