Alma, Kansas is a peaceful town known for its natural beauty, friendly community, and historic limestone buildings.
Here in the Sunflower State, we're not exactly known for a lot of raucous hullabaloo. When most people think of tranquil states where you can find some peace and quiet, Kansas is probably near the top of the list. Still, if you've spent much time here, you're well-aware that we do have some surprisingly busy towns. A visit to Kansas City or Wichita will provide plenty of attractions for even the most discerning of travelers. However, the fact remains that are lots of peaceful towns in Kansas. One of our favorites is the quiet little city of Alma. This place has it all: natural beauty, friendly community, and a throwback feel that will make you feel like you stepped back in time to simpler days. Check it out:
Alma is the county seat of Wabaunsee County. Its population is right around 800. The first house here was built in 1867, and Alma grew a few decades later when a railroad was built running through the town.
Alma is nicknamed the "city of native stone" thanks to the limestone that is prominent in this region.
This is a great old-fashioned place where kids decorate buses in celebration of centenarian's birthdays.
Holiday celebrations in Alma are always a blast - and, of course, the city always celebrates the Chiefs!
Many of the buildings in Alma are constructed of limestone, giving them a unique appearance.
The crime rate here is significantly lower than the rest of the state and the country. It's a quiet place where there isn't much trouble.
