I Asked Our AI-Travel Planner for a Day Trip Adventure in Boise — Here’s What It Created

I let AI create my upcoming day trip in Boise, Idaho. What do you think of the results?

If you are like me, I love to take day trips where I can disconnect. I can leave my stress and worries behind and focus on my overall well-being. Sometimes, I like to bring my entire family along on these adventures, but often, I just like to be alone. So, to help me plan my next solo adventure in the City of Trees, I turned to AI. Typically, I like to plan these adventures on my own, but I wanted to see if AI could create an itinerary that I would actually enjoy — that could help me unwind, disconnect, and explore.

I turned to Only In Your State’s award-winning AI-powered Dashboard trip planner. This unique AI tool creates custom adventures based on our Only In Your State curated editorial content library. To begin, I simply told the Dashboard I wanted to plan a single day trip to Boise, that I would be traveling alone, my adventure would take place in the summer months, and I wanted to spend my time in nature.

The following is the itinerary I received. What do you think?

Things to do in Boise, Idaho

Boise River Greenbelt

I must admit that I wasn’t too surprised to see the Boise River Greenbelt on my itinerary — this is one of the best places for an outdoor adventure in the City of Trees. This 25-mile pathway takes you throughout Boise and to many of its city parks. It follows the Boise River, is lined with trees, and is especially beautiful in the summer and fall months. You can walk, run, or cycle along the trail, and there are numerous access points.

Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve

After some time on the Boise River Greenbelt, I’d continue my day outdoors but now, I’d head to Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve. This is a 53-acre wetland area in West Boise where you’ll find water, trails, overlooks, and more. This is a terrific place to observe wildlife of all sizes and even put on a pair of hiking boots and explore a little. Since I’m visiting in the summer, this is also a terrific place to cool off in the water.

Oregon Trail Historic Reserve

Another pleasant surprise was to see the Oregon Trail Historic Reserve on my itinerary. This area is located in southeast Boise and is where you can walk along the Oregon Trail and see original wagon wheel ruts. There are signs along your way telling you more about the area's history and the first people who ventured here years ago. While I particularly love the history found at the Oregon Trail Reserve, there’s something just as inspiring about the views — bring a camera to this destination near Boise.

Places to eat in Boise, Idaho

Moon’s Kitchen-Coffee House

Located right on Main Street in Boise, this popular Idaho restaurant is one you don’t want to miss and the perfect place to fuel up for a day of adventure. This restaurant has been drawing in crowds for years, and you can order homemade breakfast and lunch throughout the day. Many of the items on the menu are made in-house, and if I could make a recommendation, try the beignets. You can thank me later.

Where to stay in Boise, Idaho

Hotel 43

While I asked for a single day trip in Boise, the Only In Your State Dashboard still recommended Hotel 43, just in case I wanted to turn my day trip into an overnight getaway. Hotel 43 is a boutique hotel located in downtown Boise. It not only has many unique features such as handcrafted headboards from locals, but this hotel also holds significance as it’s located in the 43rd parallel and Idaho was the 43rd state. Hotel 43 is located near many entertainment and shopping experiences in the City of Trees, and you can dine at the delicious Market 43 or the popular Chandlers Steakhouse during your stay.
