If you complete this road trip in its entirety, you will travel approximately 234 miles one way. We recommend breaking the trip into multiple days so you can enjoy the stunning views without feeling rushed. Use this interactive map to help customize your road trip.
1. Stanley
Our flower road trip begins in Stanley. Not only is this small town full of recreational opportunities but all over the area, you will find gorgeous fields of wildflowers. If you want a scenic drive, travel on Highway 21 for some of our favorite views. You may also want to pull out your hiking boots and head on a wildflower trail such as the Yellow Belly Lake Trail or Fourth of July Lake Trail.
2. Pettit Lake
Located in the Sawtooth National Forest is another area where you can find colorful wildflowers — Pettit Lake. I recommend spending the day at the Pettit Lake Day Use Area, where you can find picnic tables and vaulted toilets. You may also consider tackling the Yellow Belly Lake to Pettit Lake Trail, a challenging route but a great place away from the crowds.
3. Sawtooth Botanical Garden, Ketchum
Wander through the five gardens that represent the five biomes of south-central Idaho when you spend some time at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden. Enjoy all of the colorful blooms, art, and educational spaces. This botanical garden is open from dawn to dusk each day, easily fitting into most road trip schedules.
4. Camas Prairie Centennial Marsh
The Camas Lily Bloom in the Camas Prairie-Centennial Marsh Wildlife Management Area is one of the most well-known wildflower blooms in Idaho. From late May to early June, enjoy meadows of purple flowers. Keep your eyes out for wildlife who may also be enjoying this breathtaking natural wonder.
5. Idaho Botanical Garden, Boise
The last stop on our flower road trip is the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise. Explore the multiple gardens, including the beautiful Rose Garden, and bring your children to the Children’s Adventure Garden for a bit of excitement. If you plan your trip just right, you can even participate in one of the many spring events hosted at this outdoor attraction.
