Lake Placid is known by residents and visitors as the Caladium Capital of the World due to the fact this town grows 95 percent of the world’s caladiums. Anyone who visits during the annual Caladium Festival will get a front-row seat to the action!

In addition, Lake Placid is also known as the Town of Murals, due to the newly 50 different murals throughout town all depicting different scenes of the small town’s history.

There is so much to see and do within this small town, despite being home to fewer than 2,500 residents. Start by exploring the bustle of Journal Plaza, which offers movie nights, the farmers market, and so much more.

With a relaxed atmosphere, it’s easy to immerse oneself in the solitude and quiet of this centralized town, but still have tons of activities and attractions to tackle.

Guests can take a self-guided tour of all the murals around town, walking from one to the other and making a day out of it.

Head on over to the Sugar Sand Distillery situated in the middle of a 10-acre Sugar Cane farm and enjoy sampling Florida rum, vodka, gin, and moonshine.

Visit Henscratch Farms Vineyard & Winery to sip some muscadine wine and watch chickens free-roam the area.

The American Clown Museum & School is another great day trip to enjoy, as you can explore tons of clown memorabilia throughout time.

It’s easy to see why there is so much Southern appeal in Lake Placid, especially when you learn all about the history dating back to the early 1900s.
