Have you been looking for some Connecticut summer destinations? Then look no further! These places offer exciting getaways without having to spend a lot of money or travel a long distance. Sometimes you forget there are so many fantastic and family friendly destinations right here in Connecticut. So, why not get out and explore the state you're living in?
1. Beardsley Zoo (Bridgeport)
This is the only zoo in the state of Connecticut!
Travel through different habitats as you explore the grounds, including an indoor rainforest.
Everything from farm animals to penguins can be found here. There are even a few peacock roaming freely!
2. Quassy Amusement Park (Middlebury)
This family destination is a long standing tradition in Connecticut.
This waterfront park is one of the last trolley parks, and is home to 22 rides on 20 acres.
There's also a water park! So you can swim, arcade, ride and dine all in one spot.
3. Southford Falls State Park (Southbury)
This park is perhaps one of the easiest to explore, but that doesn't mean the views aren't just as rewarding!
The bridges here make for manageable trails with a hint of romance.
Not to mention the gorgeous Southford Falls!
4. Silver Sands State Park (Milford)
Come and explore the 297 acres and the boardwalks it includes.
Beach, salt marsh, and woods are just a view of the terrains you can travel while here.
Spending a day here is guaranteed to catch you some spectacular views!
5. Heublein Tower (Simsbury)
You will love the panoramic views of the Hartford skyline and the Farmington River Valley!
But you'll also love the beauty and detail of the tower's stone work.
At 165 feet tall, this place is just breathtaking!
6. Fort Griswold (Groton)
This fort played a key role in the American Revolutionary War!
The granite Groton Monument stands at 135 feet and commemorates the men who fell during the Battle of Groton Heights.
The view of New London across the water is a must see at sunset!
7. Housatonic Rail Trail (Trumbull)
This 10-mile trail connects to Monroe, providing a safe traffic-free area for bikers and runners.
Passing through the woods is exhilarating, especially on a hot summer's day.
Take a break along the water and soak in the charming river views.
8. Ocean Beach Park (New London)
From the second you see the boardwalk you know you're in for a superior beach experience.
Soft sand and a wide open expanse of beach means there's plenty of room for everybody.
Plus it's also home to a splash pad, a mini golf course, and an olympic-sized pool.
9. Mystic Aquarium (Mystic)
It's time to get up close and personal with the creatures of the sea.
The trainers are incredibly friendly, answering any questions and cracking jokes during feeding time.
They even have your movie favorites!
10. Satan's Kingdom (New Hartford)
This one-acre recreation area is perfect for outdoor lovers looking for light fun.
You can hike, fish, or just relax along the river's edge. You may even sight a bald eagle!
But most people go for the tubing. Along the 2-mile float are 3 sets of rapids!
