When it comes to gorgeous and picturesque small towns, Colorado hit the jackpot. From the mountains to the Front Range to the Eastern Plains, there is no shortage of small and friendly towns (of 5,000 or less), which is why we have researched and created this memorable road trip covering as many of these often overlooked places as possible. Hop in the car and let's go! (Link to the original map can be found here.)
1. Buena Vista (Population: 2,736)
What better place to start a small town road trip than the scenic mountain town of Buena Vista, which is abundant in outdoor recreation opportunities as well as parks, theaters, and other family fun.
2. Breckenridge (Population: 4,648)
If you think this picture in and of itself is appealing, wait until you experience Breck's unique festivals, shopping, lodging, and restaurants for yourself!
3. Silverthorne (Population: 3,887)
If there was ever a time to get out and stretch your legs for a bit, Silverthorne is it! (Oh, and did we mention that Silverthorne is home to nearly 4,000 of the nicest folks you will ever meet?)
4. Manitou Springs (Population: 4,992)
Located next door to the big city (Colorado Springs), Manitou is truly a history buff's paradise with its large variety of museums, railways, and vintage trading posts.
5. Rocky Ford (Population: 3,912)
If you thought Rocky Ford's melons were nice, wait until you see their beautifully kept downtown area, museum, and gorgeous surrounding farmland!
6. Fort Garland (Population: 433)
Experience both a unique climate and culture at this "Gateway to the San Luis Valley," which houses not only a wonderful museum, but several local artists as well.
7. Salida (Population: 5,409)
Okay, so we may have made a slight exception to the rule by adding this slightly larger than 5,000 town to our list... but after seeing this stunning picture, can you really blame us?!
