It'll take at least two, and there's some zig-zagging, too.

But the colorful and lively views are incredible and worth the effort. Read on to learn more about it, pack the car, bring snacks, hit the road, and prepare to take fantastic pictures. This road trip to see some of the prettiest flowers in Colorado is one you'll never forget. If you like road trips, Colorado, and flowers, then you'll LOVE this road trip. This lengthy journey will take you to some of the best spots for wildflowers in the state. You'll love visiting all these beautiful places!

1. Pawnee Buttes - Weld County

Our road trip starts on the prairie at Pawnee Buttes in the Pawnee National Grassland. Many people focus only on the mountains in Colorado, but the prairie is spectacular, too—and in the springtime, it's rich with wildflowers like the plains flax, sunflowers, and the prairie phlox.

2. Roxborough State Park - Littleton

Head southwest and across the Denver metro to Roxborough State Park. Wildflowers in this park look especially beautiful with the backdrop of the park's red rock formations. While visiting this lovely state park, you might see silvery lupine, white and yellow sweet clover, or purple prairie clover.

3. Rocky Mountain National Park

Zigzag north from Roxborough to the vast 265,807-acre Rocky Mountain National Park. This incredible park is one of the best places to see wildflowers worldwide, not just in Colorado. In fact, there are over 900 species of wildflowers that have been discovered throughout this national park.

4. Herman Gulch - Dillon

Hike the Herman Gulch Trail in the Arapaho National Forest near Dillon to see even more flowers. Many Colorado blue columbines grow along this trail. These lovely columbine blooms are Colorado's state flower, so it's worth seeing them in person.

5. Mount Blue Sky

Formerly known as Mount Evans, Mount Blue Sky is one of Colorado's most famous mountains. The road to the top, Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway, is the highest in North America, and driving it is an epic experience. Along the way, you'll spot flowers bursting with colors everywhere you look. It's been closed for construction, but is expected to reopen Memorial Day Weekend in 2026.

6. Indian Peaks Wilderness - Ward

The Indian Peak Wilderness is yet another breathtaking place in our great state. This wilderness area of more than 76,000 acres is chock-full of epic trails and wildflowers, like sunflowers, columbines, and alpine buttercups.

7. Crested Butte

Crested Butte is, in my opinion, one of the very best small towns in Colorado at any time of the year. In the spring and summer, you'll see views like this one. It's almost dream-like! Among the flowers you may see are columbine, larkspur, elephantella, and Indian paintbrush.

8. American Basin

Finally, the American Basin near Ouray is well-known as one of the best places in Colorado to see wildflowers. The colors and variety here are incredible; you can see species like Parry's primrose, marsh marigold, and columbine, among others. This spot is the perfect place to end our wildflower road trip. This Colorado flower road trip is one that you won't soon forget. You're going to love everything about this colorful adventure. We hope you enjoy!
