Located in Routt County, Oak Creek was first settled as a mining camp, with the first coal mine opening in 1890 and continuing through most of the early to mid-20th century. Like so many towns of its time, the mines would eventually close; however, instead of going under, Oak Creek would learn to adapt and shift its economy to tourism. Because of its location in the Yampa Valley, outdoor tourism came naturally to Oak Creek, thanks to its beautiful landscape and easy access to skiing and snowboarding, hiking, fishing, scenic drives, and more.

Considered "Four Seasons of Fun," Oak Creek, Colorado is a dream for those who love the great outdoors.
