The sound of jingle bells on a horse drawn carriage, the nip of winter's chill across your face, the laughter of your loved ones, and a warm drink heating you from the inside... these things practically scream Christmas in a small town. There's so many amazing towns that each celebrate Christmas in their own way. Here are some of our favorites!
1. Arcata
What says Christmas better than hundreds of Santa's elves running through a sleepy little town? In Arcata, a cheerful holiday tradition that happens year after year is the Ugly Holiday Sweater Run!
2. Sutter Creek
One of the prettiest holiday main streets, Sutter Creek has a lovely old fashioned charm when it comes to their decorating.
3. Auburn
Every year, Old Town Auburn shuts down for a period of time for a holiday craft fair. The Country Christmas event allows you to shop locally for that perfect gift.
4. Ferndale
The site of America's largest living Christmas Tree, Ferndale is a quaint and festive town during any time of year, but most especially so during Christmas.
It's also the site of the beloved Christmas Tractor Parade!
5. Windsor
No holiday season is complete without a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Celebration! In Windsor, businesses, individuals, students and groups decorate a Charlie Brown tree and display them all on the Windsor Town Green for the community to enjoy.
6. Placerville
Another spectacular downtown during the holidays with lots of antique charm is Placerville.
Placerville lines the highway, located adjacent to Main Street, with locally decorated trees that bring joy to any traveler passing through.
7. Grass Valley
Grass Valley puts on quite a celebration every year with the annual Cornish Christmas Celebration. Musicians and community members dress up in the garb of Christmas Past...you'll feel like you walked right into Charles Dickens's The Christmas Carol!
It's always wonderful seeing the community come together at Christmas time. What is your favorite little town to ring in the holidays at?
