This Arizona Hobbit House Is a Literary Pilgrimage for Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien
Step inside a whimsical Hobbit-style Airbnb that feels like a storybook escape. It's one of the most unique literary destinations in Prescott.
If you're a fan of "The Lord of the Rings" and want to take your Tolkien obsession to the next level, there's a literary destination in Prescott, Arizona, with your name on it. This Hobbit House Airbnb brings The Shire off the pages and into the real world with magical details like a round door, live-edge woodwork, and beautiful paintings.
This charming cottage is located in historic Prescott, home to Northern Arizona's largest independent bookstore, Peregrine Book Company. The 1930s farm shed was renovated by local college students in the early 2000s, and the Hobbit touches were added in 2024. Now, it's a place Tolkien fans travel for to experience his fantastical works firsthand.
Why This Literary Destination in Prescott Is Perfect for J.R.R. Tolkien Fans
As soon as you step through the hand-carved Hobbit door, you'll be transported straight to Middle-earth. Antique furnishings, including a wooden armoire, vintage lamps, and ornate rugs, create a magical ambiance that immediately draws you in.
The kitchen features rustic wooden counters and shelving, colorful mosaic tile and stained glass, and the most beautiful sky-blue ceilings. And it isn't just for show, either—it's functional, equipped with a full range of updated appliances and all the cooking essentials you could ever need. I think this is my favorite room in the house. Just look at that dishwasher door!
The beautiful artwork on the walls makes for a truly immersive stay. It makes you feel like you're in an enchanted forest rather than the middle of Prescott.
While the house isn't large, I think that's actually a good thing in this case because it really drives home the Hobbit theme. It has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, plus an extra single bed in the living room, accommodating three guests in total. There's also one full bathroom, and just wait until you see the sink!
The spacious front yard features outdoor seating and a hot tub perfect for relaxing after spending the day exploring Northern Arizona. Between the string lights and the dragon mural on one of the exterior walls, I can't think of a better way to end the night. There's also an EV charger on the property—but you won't need to use your car much, as Prescott's main attractions, such as Whiskey Row, are within walking distance through Granite Creek Park.
Tips for Planning Your Literary Pilgrimage
The Shire of Prescott would make the perfect addition to a book-themed road trip in Arizona. Serendipitously, Prescott is also home to the Bear & Dragon Cafe, a book-themed coffee shop and restaurant with Tolkien-inspired menu items. The Shire Salad, anyone? How about a Mordor Maple latte?
