Frequent Flyers At Newark Airport Won’t Be Happy To Read The Findings Of A New Study
Let’s face it: despite its many conveniences, there’s plenty of stress associated with air travel. Among the most frustrating elements of frequent flying is the time spent waiting in line prior to every flight. This is particularly true when it comes to airport security lines, which often seem to drag as travelers make their way through metal detectors and body scanners.
A recently released data study by Upgraded Points has created a ranking of the best and worst airports for TSA wait times, and the results might just have you thinking twice before booking your next vacation.
According to the study, which analyzed and ranked security wait times among America’s 25 busiest airports, travelers who dislike standing in line should steer clear of Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
Newark topped the list of worst wait times, with an average length of 23.1 minutes. The study provided additional details, though, which might allow for minimized wait times if properly considered. Newark’s busiest TSA time slot seems to happen between noon and 1 p.m. on Mondays, when lines keep flyers waiting for approximately 60 minutes. On the flip side, travelers on Fridays from 10 to 11 p.m. see average waits of just 15 minutes.
Upgraded Points’ study also pointed to Salt Lake City International Airport as the U.S. airport with lowest security wait times, clocking in at an average of just 9.1 minutes. Peak travel times took the wait up to 26 minutes, while lines dipped into the mere two-minute territory during light travel hours.
Washington Dulles International Airport snagged the second spot among the "lowest wait time" list, with an average line time of just 10.5 minutes. The next time you’re plotting a vacation path, you might opt to forgo Newark and reroute your travels through a neighboring airport.
