Our travel experts hand-picked some fantastic travel gear this month! We're testing out awesome new items to share with you in August, but in case you missed them, here's a little look back at our readers' most-loved travel products for July!
1. A Memory Foam Seat Cushion For Long Road Trips
Summer is road trip season, but if you're planning a longer journey, comfort is key!
We'll admit that when we first found this memory foam seat cushion, we had flashbacks to when we were first learning to drive and needed to sit on a pillow to properly see over the steering wheel, but sitting a few inches taller (and a whole lot comfier) was definitely worth it. Unlike a lot of seat cushions, this one is big enough to fit a full seat, so it doesn't slip around beneath you.
2. Cozy (And Cute!) Quince Compression Socks
OnlyInYourState Manager Of Editorial Megan Shute swears by compression socks for long-haul flights, road trips, and even lounging around a hotel after a long day of exploring. "I am a recent compression sock convert, and I often wear them at home before or after an anticipated long day of walking or exploring a new city, but I always make sure to have a pair in my carry-on as well so I can enjoy the light compression on an airplane or in the car. The Quince compression socks are labeled as maternity compression socks, but I can’t tell the difference and they were half the price of others I’ve seen advertised online."
3. Goodbye, Wrinkles! A Perfectly Portable Clothing Steamer
Traveling for a wedding or formal event? Love wearing linen in the summer but hate the creases? This handheld steamer is a game-changer to keep you looking crisp while away from home. The steamer heats up quickly, features multiple steaming positions for maximum versatility, and is dual-voltage to adapt anywhere in the world!
4. No More Car Crumbs! The Shark Wandvac Is A Lifesaver
We finally laid our trusty-but-dusty old hand vacuum to rest and splurged for the Shark Wandvac on Prime Day - and so did many of our readers! It certainly earns style points for being sleek, compact, and easy to use, but we were also impressed by the power & suction.
The attachment for cleaning hard-to-reach places left our car looking cleaner than it has been in months. While the Wandvac's smaller dust cup may not be able to handle something like the fur-tornado of a shedding husky without needing to be emptied a few times, the brush attachment worked well for pulling up ground-in crumbs from the aftermath of a spilled-box-of-CheezIts incident.
5. We Love The Ello Pop & Fill Water Bottle
OnlyInYourState's Manager of Editorial is an avid traveler and loves this Ello Pop & Fill water bottle that is easy to fill, leak-proof, and keeps drinks cold for hours: "I love that this water bottle has a built-in straw as well as an option to chug. While I prefer drinking from a straw, the large opening prevents airplane pressure changes to cause a mess and makes for quick and easy fill-ups."
6. Ready To Camp? The Wawona 6 Tent Is A Winner
A good camping tent is an investment piece, so we poured over reviews of before committing to the
North Face Wawona 6 - and we weren't disappointed. This tent came up over and over again while researching, and the sheer volume of gear gurus singing its praises convinced us.
The Wawona 6 is not a small tent - it's built to accommodate up to six people - but packs down to the size of a medium duffle bag, which makes it great for family camping trips. It also stands over 6 feet tall, so you won't be hunched over while moving around inside. The extended rain fly portion (North Face calls it a "vestibule," but we named it the "tent garage") is really convenient for stashing gear that doesn't need to be inside the tent with you, and it's also great for keeping the ground (and shoes) right outside of the door dry. North Face makes quality gear, so we know this one will last us a while.
7. A Summer Must Have: A Splash-Proof Phone Pouch
Our Manager of Editorial lived in Hawaii for several years, and always kept a waterproof phone case in her beach bag – you never know when you'll want to walk behind a waterfall, go on a kayak excursion, or take underwater videos swimming with sea turtles. Okay, so that last example might not be a common experience, but if you believe summer is best experienced from the water, a waterproof phone case will come in handy for keeping your phone available to you in case of emergencies and capturing those memories you'll never want to forget.
8. A Waterproof Bag For Wet Clothes & Swimsuits
Wet bags are one of those small, simple, and cheap things that you just don't realize how handy they are until you're not dealing with soggy, sandy clothes in your bag after a day at the beach. This one comes in tons of fun colors and patterns, too! We keep one in our gym bag, one in our suitcase, and another tucked in the car, just in case.
So, tell us, what are your travel must-haves? What products would you love us to try out next?
