Little towns are sprinkled throughout the Tennessee landscape and the people who are there like to live simple lives. So naturally, you will have little country stores supplying the needs of the community. These are delightful places to enjoy, but there is one country store in Limestone, Tennessee, that may possibly be one of the best in the state. Troyer’s Mountain View Country Market is one of those must-see little general stores. In fact, I have been there many times and when someone comes to visit from out of state, this is one of the first places I take them.
Troyer’s started as a family-run business in 1995 out of a deep Amish heritage.
Home cooking has always been a value in the Troyer household, and they have brought that value to all of us. The huge country store sits off of a busy road but is surrounded appropriately by farmland. The large red building makes a bold statement and certainly has a wow factor while entering. Along the road, you can see the long mountain range known as the Cherokee National Forest, but on a clear day, you can see the Great Smoky Mountains looming far off in the distance.
Picnic tables and rocking chairs on the front porch give the impression that you are stepping into a house you have been invited to, where you are about to have a generous home-cooked meal.
Inside you will instantly be blown away by the variety of items. Peruse the selection of toys or home decor, then check out the delicious homemade jams and bread. I have always been surprised each time I go when I end up finding something entirely new that I haven't seen before. The dried fruits and vegetables have become one of my favorites like green beans or banana chips.

The deli offers lunch meats and cheeses - just like the grocery store, but at reasonable prices.
One of the Troyer family's values is to take the same products they have used in their own kitchen and bring those to their customers. Great prices and great values from their family to yours have built the store you can visit today. This is also where you can order sandwiches for lunch or a good juicy burger.
Check out helpful ingredients or bundles of your favorite candy. The variety is quite welcomed, with items you need and items you never thought you needed but are thrilled to have. You can even get big containers of your favorite seasoning to refill your jars at home. My kids love getting a big bag of dehydrated marshmallows, again something you didn't think you needed until you pop a handful of those sweet treats in your mouth.
In what looks like a small replica of the main Troyer’s building, the other structure is called Auntie Ruth’s and houses delicious baked treats.
Large pretzels hang from a rack in the window and donuts are being glazed fresh out of the oven. The alluring smell will pull you in for a closer look. This little place has gained a massive reputation over the years and has become the local favorite. Every time we have gone there is a long line waiting for the most delicious donuts in town. They have also grown and opened a new location for Auntie Ruth's in Johnson City.
Some claim these donuts are some of the best in all of Tennessee, and we would have to agree.
Your donut will be handed to you with both hands because a single donut will be the size of your face. You may need help to finish it off, but once you take one bite you will regret inviting anyone to join you; trust me, you will want to savor every bite.
You may also indulge in a massive pretzel or a pretzel dog. A pretzel dog takes cheese and a hotdog and then wraps it in the store's signature soft pretzel for a winning combination you must try when you go.
