What is winter in Tennessee like?

Tennessee has fairly mild winters compared to states that are farther north, but it can be a good bit snowier than areas that are closer to the coast and farther south, like South Carolina or south Georgia. January and February tend to get the most snow, and you’re much more likely to see snow in our mountainous and more northern areas.

What are some of the best winter towns in Tennessee?

Johnson City is one of our favorite winter towns in Tennessee! The downtown area has a river flowing through it and it’s absolutely gorgeous when surrounded by snow. The little town has so much charm and great places to check out, like the Johnson City Community Theater, which is the longest-running theater in all of the Volunteer State. Another great place to explore is Graceland. It’s one of the most famous attractions in Tennessee, and it’s especially magical around Christmastime.

Are there places to go snow tubing in Tennessee?

Ober Gatlinburg is one of the best places for snow tubing in Tennessee. The 400-foot hill is perfect for sliding down in a tube, and it requires no skill – just about anyone can do it, unlike skiing or snowboarding. Another fun winter activity in Tennessee is sled riding. It’s not just for kids – anyone can enjoy the thrill of flying down a hill on a sled.
