Spend The Night In An Authentic 1880s Railroad Hotel In The Middle Of Wisconsin’s Norwegian Country

Memories at the Depot in Woodville offers historic accommodations with modern amenities, perfect for large groups.

For years, the stately brick building welcomed travelers in the west central town of Woodville. Memories at the Depot was a railroad hotel and while it’s no longer catering to rail passengers, it’s now a rental home that offers historic accommodations that are big enough for a large group. The house is located in a town with a rich Norwegian history, and it’s an easy drive from locations in western Wisconsin. Here’s why you need to plan a getaway to this special home.

Woodville, population 1,300, is a village in St. Croix County that was once a logging town called Kelly’s Switch – named after a local mill owner. In 1874 its name was changed to Woodville, after a little hamlet in New York. It has a rich Norwegian history that’s celebrated each May when the village celebrates Syttende Mai, Norway's Independence Day.

The town is roughly between Eau Claire and the Twin Cities of Minnesota and has long been a rest stop for travelers. In 1889, a red brick building was built to serve as a railroad hotel depot.

Today, you can rent the home out for a getaway, and it can accommodate a large family or a group of friends. There’s plenty of space – the home is 4,000 square feet, and there are six bedrooms with enough beds to sleep 17.

The home retains it’s 1800s woodwork and historic charm, yet it has modern amenities like wifi.

If you need some meeting or crafting space, this is the perfect rental. There is also a big kitchen and spacious common areas.

The home has a pleasant backyard that’s perfect for yard games or just relaxing by a fire. There are also train tracks and a vintage train parked nearby.
